Here is a fantastic idea from The Nature Conservancy's blog to get the kids outside and doing something fun!

I've always been enamored with looking down at the trail and seeing what has walked there before me. Often it is usually just another human boot print, but every so often maybe I'll see a deer or dog track. Though, more often than not, I don't see any tracks. Unless it has just recently snowed or rained.
Going out and looking for clues of what has been walking on the trail before you can really help engage your child in the experience of the hiking or walking along a trail.
