The Every Day Walk

How many of us have made it a goal in this new year to exercise more or to be more active in our daily life?

Now, we all know that we should be exercising at least 30 minutes a day, five times a week.  Or at least that is the recommended amount currently.  But in reality it is sometimes hard to find the time while chasing around a toddler or two or three, cleaning the house, doing dishes, paying bills, and trying to prepare meals for the family.

I have found the only way I can do this is to find nice walk that I can start directly from my house.  Whether you find one around your neighborhood or down a road that doesn't have too much traffic, figure out a 30 or so minute walk.  Then strap your child into a stroller or wagon and take them out.  They will love the fresh air and it will do both of you some good.

In addition my doctor has emphasized that it is really important to make sure I get at least 1,000 to 2,000 units of Vitamin D a day - either by taking a supplement or by spending 15 minutes or so outside.  A walk is a great way to take care of both of these issues.

Today we took advantage of the warm, for January, weather and took our walk.  We have an out and back we do that is more like a 45 minute walk but we get in 3 1/2 miles.  On such a blue sky day the dog, little one and I all appreciated the fresh air and the exercise.  How fantastic is this mild weather we are experiencing in the north country?
