Wellesley Island State Park

Last summer, I did some research online to find some hiking trails near to us and discovered Wellesley Island State Park.  So on an overcast weekend, Mat and I went to do a little exploring in person.  It was close enough by that if it turned really nasty and ugly, we would not feel to committed to make it an endurance hike.

Mat stopped in at the Minna B. Anthony Nature Center and the volunteer/employee suggested a nice loop hike that he thought would be stroller friendly.  (Ummm...I wouldn't suggest taking a stroller on any of their trails except for a short paved trail to the seasonal butterfly house.)  It has over 10 miles of walking trails and the largest camping complex in the Thousand Islands region, plus boating access, swimming, a spot for archery and a golf course - this state park has everyone's interests covered!

Back to our hike, we soon learned that we were going to be pushing the stroller on a trail with roots, downed trees, wooden steps, and slick rock.  We had a few people give us funny looks as we were pushing our stroller along, but it was an adventure and fun!  We have returned to hike on the trails there (putting Brie in a backpack, though) and hope to go cross-country skiing this winter.  Now if only it would snow!

There is a fun event coming soon at Wellesley Island State Park:  Track and Scats - Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 2 p.m.
